X Site Kids Club

I've just come back from a planning meeting about X-Site Birmingham. X Site is a big kids club that we are aiming to start up in Brum next year with kids & churches from across the city involved. There is already an X Site in Leeds and it seems to be going really well. Three girls from Brum - Karen, Emma & Anne have been getting this thing up & running and they are very enthusiastic & full of vision for the event. Tonight was the second planning meeting I have attended, & as everyone went around the room sharing stories about how they got into kids work, it became clear that the core team is made up of guys with a real passion for seeing young people get to know Jesus. The team began to gel as we laughed together & certain individuals characteristics started to emerge!

I'm really buzzed about X Site because I have thinking and praying about something like this for a long time ie. namely a large, fantastic ongoing kids event in Birmingham that is bigger than any one church could put on and has the potential to help make an impact in the city.

For those who don't know, our church- South Birmingham Vineyard is in the middle of an exciting journey, part of which involves developing a vision to become a church that somehow serves the whole of the city. Two years ago we bought Network House, a building in Highgate - near the city centre which is where our offices and various ministries are based. We're still working on making the ground floor fit to meet in, but last month we moved our Sunday services out from the school in the suburbs after 12 years, and started meeting in St. Martin's Church - a huge old anglican church right next to the new bullring shopping centre. It's been a very significant & potentially scary move, but after 2 weeks, things seem to be going ok - and many people sense God's favour on us as we meet there. It's all part of a much bigger journey - which I will write about in more detail over the next days & weeks, but suffice it to say that getting involved in the Core Team of X Site really fits in with the bigger picture of what God is doing with us in the city.
